Before you begin

You will need to have your Email Account, Password, Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server information. To find this, log into your account via hostControl:

https://secure.hostcontrol.com.au (If you are unsure of your login details, select the 'Forgotten Password' button).

Once in hostControl, browse to the "Email Accounts" section, find the email account you wish to setup and select the 'Connect Info' link to the right. This will show your email's username, password, incoming mail server, outgoing mail server and port number. Keep this information handy and proceed to Step 1.

 Step 1

This Mozilla Thunderbird guide is based on version 38.0.1

Open Mozilla Thunderbird and click the 'Email' link in the centre. In older versions of Thunderbird, you may have to go to "File" > "New" > "Existing Mail Account".

 Step 2

You may get the following window popup. If you do, select "Skip this and use my existing email".

 Step 3

Next, fill in the following details and then click 'Continue'.

Your Name: The name you wish to appear when sending your recipients emails
Email Address: The full email address you wish to setup. Eg. yourname@domainname.com.au
Password: Your Email Account's Password. If you are unsure, visit the "Email Accounts" section of hostControl and click 'Display Passwords'.

    Step 4

It will begin trying to automatically retrieve the connection information, however we need to set this up manually. So select the 'Manual Config' button. Or wait until it finishes trying to verify and you will be able to amend the settings.

 Step 5

We can now fill in our remaining settings down the bottom of the window. (Your name, Email and Password will already be pre-filled from before). Once you enter in all your details, select the "Re-test" button.

Incoming IMAP/POP3: Select POP3 or IMAP. If you are unsure which to choose, see the following Knowledge Base article link on Should I choose POP3 or IMAP?.
Incoming Server Hostname: Your email account's incoming mail server. To find this, please refer to your Account Information by logging into hostControl.
Incoming Port: Auto
Incoming SSL: Select 'SSL/TLS' for encrypted method (this will auto-fill the Port number)
Incoming Authentication: Autodetect
Outgoing Server Hostname: Your outgoing mail server will be the same as your incoming mail server.
Outgoing Port: 26
Outgoing SSL: Auto
Outgoing Authentication: Autodetect
Username Incoming / Outgoing: Your username will be the same as your full email address. Eg. yourname@domainname.com.au.

 Step 6

This should auto-fill any auto settings. Finally, click Done to save.

Your new email account has now been setup and ready to use!
